Anaïs Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho, known by her stage name Arlo Parks, is a British singer-songwriter and poet.
2018-2019: Super Sad Generation and Sophie
Parks first garnered attention for her music in 2018 when she began uploading demos to BBC Music Introducing. Her songs made their way to Ali Raymond of Beatnik Creative, who soon became Parks’ manager. She made her debut in November 2018 with the release of her single "Cola" through Beatnik Records. One year later, the song had amassed over three million streams on Spotify.
After Cola was released, Parks signed to Transgressive Records. "Super Sad Generation", the title track of her upcoming EP, was released in January 2019. She followed with her third single, "Romantic Garbage", that March. The full four-track EP, Super Sad Generation, was released in early April 2019. That May, Parks performed her first-ever gig at The Great Escape in Brighton. That summer, she performed on the BBC Music Introducing stage at Glastonbury Festival, as well as at Latitude Festival. That September, Parks embarked on her first tour supporting Jordan Rakei on the UK leg of his tour.
In the latter half of the year, she released the EP Sophie, preceded by the singles "George", "Second Guessing", "Sophie", and "Angel's Song".
2020-present: Collapsed in Sunbeams
Parks began her first headlining tour of Europe in February and March 2020 but was forced to postpone the rest of the tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That May, she released the singles "Eugene" and "Black Dog", with "Black Dog" becoming BBC Radio 1’s Tune of the Week. In August, Parks won the AIM Independent Music Award for One to Watch in 2020.
Her debut album, Collapsed in Sunbeams, was released on January 29, 2021. On 11 May, she won the Breakthrough Artist Award at the 2021 Brit Awards. That September, Collapsed in Sunbeams won the Hyundai Mercury Prize for album of the year. The album has also been nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.
Parks is the opening act for Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Clairo for their respective 2022 tour shows.
