ABOUT LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES

Metalcore band Like Moths to Flames was formed in 2010 in Columbus, Ohio from ex-members of several rock and metal bands, including Emarosa, Agraceful, the Crimson Armada, and My Ticket Home. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Chris Roetter and bassist Aaron Evans – the group’s two original members – as well as lead guitarist Jeremy Smith, and rhythm guitarist Zach Pishney.

CAREER

2010: Formation and Sweet Talker

In early-2010, vocalist Chris Roetter, formerly of Emarossa and Agraceful, brought together four former members of Ohio metal band TerraFirma to create Like Moths to Flames. That February, the band released its debut single "Dead Routine". "Avada Kedavra" and "Death Eaters" – two more demos – were released in advance of their debut EP Sweet Talker. Sweet Talker was released on December 14, 2010, with the band having signed to Rise Records that October. In support of the EP, the band teamed up with fellow acts Texas in July and A Hero A Fake on the A Metal Christmas Tour throughout late-2010.

2011-2012: When We Don’t Exist and line-up changes

The band toured extensively throughout 2011. Having already lost their first drummer Jordan Matz in 2010 (who was replaced by Lance Greenfield), the band’s bassist Aaron Douglas left just before they went into the studio to work on their debut studio album. Former My Ticket Home member Eli Ford joined the band on guitar and Aaron Evans began playing bass for the group. The album, When We Don’t Exist, was released through Rise Records on November 8, 2011, to critical acclaim. The following January, the band was joined on the S.I.N. Tour by  D.R.U.G.S., Hit the Lights, and Sparks The Rescue. They then embarked on another tour with Texas in July and Hundredth.

2013-2014: An Eye for An Eye

The Rise Records Tour took place in the first half of 2013 and Like Moths to Flames headlined the tour, which traversed the US with fellow label acts  Crown the Empire, the Color Morale, Palisades, and My Ticket Home.

An Eye for An Eye, the band’s second studio album, was released on July 9, 2013, and reached number 63 on the Billboard 200. For the rest of summer 2013, the band played the Vans Warped Tour on the Monster Energy Stage.

In 2014, the band embarked on the All Stars Tour. Shortly after, guitarist Zach Huston left the band to be replaced by Jeremy Smith, formerly of City Lights.

2015-2016: The Dream is Dead and The Dying Things We Live For

On April 6, 2015, the band released a standalone release on 7" Vinyl called The Dream Is Dead. The release featured two tracks: the A-side "Bury Your Pain" and the B-side "What's Done Is Done".

The Dying Things We Live For, the band’s third studio album, was released on October 23, 2015. The album also hit the Billboard 200 and launched three singles, including "Fighting Fire with Fire", and "Wither".

2017-2018: Dark Divine

Two years after their last release, the band returned in September 2017 with the single "Nowhere Left to Sink". That November, Dark Divine, their fourth studio album, was released. It was preceded by the title track, which was released as the album’s second single on October 7, as well as "Empty the Same" a week later, "Shallow Truths for Shallow Minds" the week after, and the final and fifth single, "From the Dust Returned" was released on October 28. The album was the band's first release with rhythm guitarist Zach Pishney and the last to feature Greg Diamond as their drummer.

The band released Dark Divine Reimagined – an EP including acoustic and stripped-down versions of several tracks from their Dark Divine album – was released on November 16, 2018.

2019-present: Where the Light Refuses to Go and No Eternity in Gold

On September 17, Like Moths to Flames announced that they signed with Australian independent label UNFD and released a new single "All That You Lost". That October, the band followed with another single titled "Smoke and Mirrors". November 2019 saw the release of a new EP: Where the Light Refuses to Go.

The band released the single "Habitual Decline" on August 11, 2020, in conjunction with the announcement of their fifth studio album, No Eternity in Gold. The album launched four singles and attracted critical acclaim.
