ABOUT JINJER

Ukrainian metalcore band Jinjer was formed in 2008 by singer Maksym Fatullaiev, guitarist Dmitriy Oksen, bassist Oleksiy Svynar, and drummer Vyacheslav Okhrimenko. Over the years, there have been many line-up changes, to the extent that the band no longer consists of any original members. Jinjer’s current line-up is Tatiana Shmailyuk (vocals), Roman Ibramkhalilov (guitar), Eugene Abdukhanov (bass), and Vladislav Ulasevich (drums).

CAREER

Jinjer’s original line-up released the four-song EP Objects in Mirror Are Closer than They Appear in 2008. The following year, Tatiana Shmailyuk replaced Maksym Fatullaiev on vocals and Roman Ibramkhalilov joined on second guitar. The band performed with this line-up for two years before bassist Oleksiy Svynar and drummer Vyacheslav Okhrimenko left the band and were replaced by Eugene Abdukhanov and Vladislav Ulasevich, respectively.

In 2012, Jinjer’s new line-up released the EP Inhale, Don’t Breathe, followed by an extensive, self-funded tour. Whilst touring, they caught the attention of The Leader Records, who signed them and re-released an extended version of Inhale, Don’t Breathe, featuring three live tracks. That year, Kyiv's InshaMuzyka label had an awards ceremony and Jinjer won Best Ukrainian Metal Act – an award they would go on to win again in 2016.

Their debut album, Cloud Factory, was self-released in 2014, featuring new drummer Yevhen Mantulin. Once again, they hit the road for an extensive international tour. In 2015, Ibramkhalilov became the group’s only guitarist when the band’s final remaining founding member, Dmitriy Oksen, departed and was not replaced.

After multiple world tours, the band released its second studio album, King of the World, alongside the single "Pisces," in 2016. The single went on to be listed at number 74 on Metal Hammer’s list of "The 100 Greatest Metal Songs of the 21st Century" in 2021.

In 2017, Jinjer supported Arch Enemy on two European tours and went on to support Cradle of Filth on their 2018 tour of North America. In February 2018, Cloud Factory was re-released on Napalm Records, and in September, the band made the Billboard Next Big Sound chart.

Tours with  Amorphis, Soilwork, and Nailed to Obscurity followed in 2019, preceded by the five-track EP Micro. Macro, their next full-length album, was released in October 2019 and it was named one of the fifty best metal albums of 2019 by Loudwire. Alive in Melbourne, the band’s first live album, was released in November 2020 and their fourth full-length album, Wallflowers, was released on 27 August the following year. Wallflowers was also ranked among the best rock/metal albums of the year by Loudwire, reaching number 21 on the list.

Jinjer placed themselves on temporary ‘pause’ in March 2021 in order to focus on relief efforts in Ukraine after Russia invaded the country one month prior. That June, the band received permission from the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture to leave Ukraine and tour as ambassadors of the nation.
