ABOUT SEBASTIÁN YATRA

Columbian singer and songwriter Sebastián Yatra was born in Medellín, Columbia and raised primarily in Miami, Florida. A musical child, he began learning to play piano and guitar and took singing lessons. After graduating high school, he briefly studied business administration at Babson College before leaving to pursue music professionally.

CAREER

2013-2017: Career beginnings and "Traicionera"

It did not take long for Yatra to find success after leaving college and in September 2013, his single "El psicólogo" was released, charting in Columbia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico and the United States. This led to support slots with Paty Cantú on her Drama Queen Tour and with Sandoval Sandoval in her Deja Que La Vida Te Sorprenda Tour. "Todo Lo Que Siento", his follow-up, also saw some success, but it was his third single, "Para olvidar", that became a big hit in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and again in the States. 2015 saw the release of two more successful singles for Yatra: "No me llames" featuring Alkilados and "Cómo Mirarte".

His single "Traicionera" was released in 2016 and reached number one in Columbia, where it was certified double-platinum. It also reached the top five in Argentina, Ecuador, and Spain, as well as reaching the top 30 on the Billboard Latin and Latin Pop charts. Yatra's 2017 collaboration with fellow Colombian singer Carlos Vives entitled "Robarte Un Beso" won an ASCAP award the following year.

2018-2019: Mantra and Fantasia

Mantra, Yatra’s debut album, was released on May 18, 2018. It was preceded by the single "Sutra" featuring Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Dalmata in March 2018, which peaked at number 26 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. The album reached number one in Argentina, number five in Mexico, and number three and number one on the US Billboard Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts, respectively. That December, his single "Ya No Tiene Novio" featuring Mau y Ricky reached number one on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart.

January 2019 saw Yatra release the collaborative single “Un Año” with Reik. The track was the lead single from his second album, Fantasia, which was nominated for Best Latin Pop Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. As with Mantra, it reached the top five in Argentina, Mexico, on the US Billboard Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts.

2019-present

Yatra’s single "Runaway" with Daddy Yankee and Natti Natasha, featuring the Jonas Brothers, was released in June 2019. It is his first bilingual release. He performed the song alongside Natti Natasha, Daddy Yankee, and the Jonas Brothers on the opening night of the Jonas Brothers' Happiness Begins Tour in Miami.

In October 2019, his single "Oye", featuring Argentine singer Tini, reached number one on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100. The following month, Yatra collaborated with Mexican rock group Maná in November 2019 to release a new version of the group's 1995 single “No Ha Parado De Llover”, which they had seen him cover at the 2018 Latin Grammy Awards.

In March 2020, he released a remix of his Fantasia song "Falta Amor" featuring Ricky Martin. He then supported Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias on their US tour from September 5 to October 30, 2021. That November 2021, Yatra released the Spanish song "Dos Oruguitas" and its English language version, "Two Oruguitas" on the soundtrack of the Disney animated film Encanto. The song was nominated for Best Original Song for the 2022 Oscars.
