About Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello was born in Havana, Cuba on March 3, 1997. She spent her early years moving back and forth between Havana and Mexico City with her family, and when she was five years old they relocated to Miami, Florida, where she attended Miami Palmetto High School. Cabello left high school in ninth grade to pursue a singing career, and earned her high school diploma later in life. She became a US citizen in 2008.

Career

2012-2016: The X Factor and Fifth Harmony

In 2012, in Greensboro, North Carolina, Cabello auditioned for the second season of the reality television singing competition X Factor with the Aretha Franklin song "Respect". The series could not attain rights to the song, so they did not air her audition, but she made it through to their "bootcamp" round. Despite being eliminated from the "bootcamp", she was brought back, alongside fellow contestants Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui, and Dinah Jane, to form the girl group Fifth Harmony. The group finished the competition in third place, but nevertheless signed a joint deal with Syco Music, owned by Simon Cowell, and Epic Records, L.A. Reid's record label.

In 2013, the group released their debut EP, Better Together, which debuted at number six on the Billboard 200. Two years later, they released their debut studio album, Reflection, which reached number five on the Billboard 200 and launched three singles: "Boss", "Sledgehammer" and "Worth It", the latter of which was certified triple-platinum in the US and reached the top 10 in 13 countries. 7/27 (2016), their third studio album, reached number four in the US and launched the single "Work from Home" featuring Ty Dolla Sign, which hit number four on the Billboard Hot 100.

In November 2015, Cabello and Canadian singer Shawn Mendes released the single "I Know What You Did Last Summer", which charted at number 20 in the US and 18 in Canada, and was certified platinum by the RIAA. The following year, in October, she released "Bad Things" - a joint single with American rapper Machine Gun Kelly that peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. Later that year, Time included her on "The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2016" list.

In December 2016, Cabello announced her departure from Fifth Harmony.

2017-2018: Camila

Cabello featured as a singer on several collaborations with different artists in the first half of 2017, including "Love Incredible" with Norwegian DJ Cashmere Cat, Spanish and English versions of the single "Hey Ma" with Pitbull and J Balvin for The Fate of the Furious soundtrack, and "Know No Better" with Major Lazer, Travis Scott and Quavo.

She released her debut solo single, "Crying in the Club", in May 2017, and later that year joined Bruno Mars as the support act for several dates on his 24K Magic World Tour.

That August, her single "Havana" featuring Young Thug reached number one in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Hungary and the United States, and spent seven weeks at number one the US Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart. The single also became Spotify's most-streamed song ever by a solo female artist in June 2018.

Camila, her debut album, was released in January 2018 and debuted at number one in the United States, gaining platinum certification from the RIAA. The singles "Havana" and "Never Be the Same" made Cabello the first artist to top the Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Top 40 airplay charts with the first two singles from a debut studio album.

She embarked on her Never Be The Same Tour in April 2018, and the following month featured on the song "Sangria Wine" by Pharrell Williams, and in Maroon 5's music video for "Girls Like You" featuring Cardi B. May 2018 also saw Cabello perform as the opening act for several dates of Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour.

That December, she was nominated for two Grammys at the 61st Annual ceremony for Best Pop Solo Performance for a live version of "Havana" and Best Pop Vocal Album for Camila.

2019: Romance

In April 2019, it was announced that Cabello would star in an upcoming film adaptation of Cinderella. Two months later, she released "Señorita", a duet with former collaborator Shawn Mendes, which debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to number one, making it her second single to top the Hot 100 chart as lead artist.

In September 2019, she announced her second studio album, Romance, and released its first two singles: "Shameless" and "Liar" that month. In October she released the album's third single, "Cry for Me".
