ABOUT JAWNY

Jawny is an American singer, songwriter, and producer who was born Jacob Lee-Nicholas Sullenger in Fairfield, California, and previously went under the stage name Johnny Utah.

CAREER

At the tender age of six, Sullenger began playing guitar and by 15, he had begun producing beats for rappers. He had a short-lived stint at college studying nursing, but he left his course in order to pursue music full-time. Going by the name Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves' character in the 1991 film Point Break), he relocated to Philadelphia in 2016 and began writing and performing locally.

In 2018, he released his eponymous debut EP on Z Tapes Records. Throughout the year, he released several more singles: "Folding Like Honey", "PATTY", and "Crazy For Your Love". Many of his songs were featured by Spotify on their Bedroom Pop playlist.

His follow-up EP, Big Dogs, was released later in 2018 and featured the previously released singles, as well as the track "Really Meant", which appeared in a 2019 episode of the HBO series High Maintenance.

2019 brought the release of the single "Honeypie", which gained millions of streams on Spotify, helped by it featuring on their platform playlists "Fresh Finds" and "Ultimate Indie". The single also became a viral hit on TikTok.

In January 2020, Sullenger left behind his Johnny Utah pseudonym and began performing as Jawny. That month, he signed to Interscope Records under the name and also relocated to Los Angeles. In February, he released the single "Anything You Want".

His debut project for Interscope, a mixtape titled For Abby, was released in October 2020. The 10-track record launched the single "Sabotage," which debuted at number 34 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart in January 2021.
