ABOUT DABABY

Jonathan Lydale Kirk, aka DaBaby, is a rapper who was born in Cleveland, Ohio and was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.

CAREER

2014-2018: Early mixtapes

Kirk launched his debut mixtape, Nonfiction, in 2015 under the name Baby Jesus. He followed with several more mixtapes over the next two years, including his God's Work mixtape series, Baby Talk mixtape series, Billion Dollar Baby, and Back on My Baby Jesus Sh*t.

Arnold Taylor, the president of the South Coast Music Group label who was responsible for the early careers of Southern rap stars Yo Gotti and Future, took an interest in DaBaby, signing him to the label. Not long after signing to South Coast, he signed a distribution deal with  Jay-Z's Roc Nation for his Blank Blank mixtape. The mixtape caught the attention of several major labels, prompting a bidding war, with Kirk eventually landing a seven-figure recording deal with Interscope.

2019: Baby on Baby and Kirk

January 2019 saw DaBaby launch his own label imprint on Interscope, Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment. That March, his debut studio album, Baby on Baby, was released. The album features guest appearances from Offset, Rich Homie Quan, Rich the Kid, and Stunna 4 Vegas and debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200. "Suge" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 87, later climbing to the top 10.

In May 2019, he featured on  Megan Thee Stallion's "Cash Shit", which reached the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, as did Quality Control's "Baby", which he featured on that July. July also saw him feature on Dreamville's compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers III, on the opening track, "Under the Sun". He was also featured on the cover of XXL as part of the Freshman Class of 2019.

DaBaby’s second studio album, Kirk, was released on September 27, 2019, and topped the Billboard 200. It was preceded by the single "Intro", which reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. That fall, he featured on tracks by Post Malone, YG, Lizzo, and Lil Nas X. By the end of 2019, DaBaby had  22 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 for the year, more than any other artist that year.

2020-present: Blame It On Baby and My Brother’s Keeper

DaBaby was nominated for two awards for "Suge", in the categories Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, at the 62nd Grammy Awards. His third studio album, Blame it on Baby, was released in April 2020 and debuted atop the Billboard 200. The album features guest appearances from Quavo from the hip-hop trio Migos, Future, JetsonMade, Roddy Ricch, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, London on da Track, Ashanti, and Megan Thee Stallion. It launched the single "Rockstar", featuring Roddy Ricch, which stayed at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks and also topped the UK charts.

In June, DaBaby was featured on the remix for the Jack Harlow song "Whats Poppin", which peaked at number two on the Hot 100 while "Rockstar" was still at the top. The following month, he was featured on "For the Night" by Pop Smoke and Lil Baby, which debuted at number six, making him the seventh artist to chart at least three songs in the top six simultaneously.

"No Dribble", featuring Stunna 4 Vegas, was released on July 27, 2020 and featured on the deluxe edition of Blame it on Baby, which was released that August. On November 20, 2020, DaBaby released his debut EP, My Brother's Keeper (Long Live G), which features appearances from Meek Mill and Polo G, among others. He also featured on the remix of "Levitating" by Dua Lipa, which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

A new single, "Masterpiece," was released in January 2021. It was followed by "Ball If I Want To" and "Red Light Green Light" that June and "Giving What It's Supposed To Give" in July.
