ABOUT GIVEON

Giveon Evans, known simply as Giveon, was a musical child whose love of music was encouraged by his mother. After attending Long Beach Polytechnic High School, he took a music education program at the Grammy Museum at age 18, where he discovered Frank Sinatra who became a huge inspiration to him in terms of singing.

CAREER

2018-2019: Career beginnings

"Garden Kisses," Giveon’s debut single, was released in August 2018. The track caught the attention of Canadian record producer Sevn Thomas, who found his music on a random playlist on SoundCloud, and later signed him to his record label Not So Fast and Epic Records. After signing to the label, he cut his teeth performing his original songs live at various local music venues. "Like I Want You", his next single, was released in November 2019. This was followed by him performing as an opening act for Snoh Aalegra on her Ugh, A Mini Tour Again of Europe and North America.

2020-present: "Chicago Freestyle" and first EPs

Evans was featured on Drake's YouTube and SoundCloud-only single "Chicago Freestyle" in February 2020, exposing him to a larger audience. The following month, he released his critically-acclaimed debut EP, Take Time, which topped Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart and went on to chart at number 35 on the Billboard 200. In May 2020, "Chicago Freestyle" was released for streaming as part of Drake’s Dark Lanes Demo Tape, which led to the track reaching number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track also charted in the top 40 in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Switzerland.

That September, Giveon released the single "Stuck on You" – the lead single to his upcoming EP When It's All Said and Done, which was released the following month. "Stuck on You" and "Like I Want You" both charted on the Billboard R&B charts and the latter was certified gold by the RIAA. In December 2020, he released his first Grammy Award nomination when Take Time was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards. He also made his late-night television debut on  Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing "Stuck on You".

February 2021 saw both "Heartbreak Anniversary" and "Like I Want You" enter the Billboard Hot 100. The following month,  he released the compilation album, When It's All Said and Done... Take Time, a combination of his first two EPs, which included a new song titled "All to Me". He was also featured on the track "Peaches" from Justin Bieber’s album Justice. "Peaches" debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 and also reached number one in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore and Slovakia. It received four nominations at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards; Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Best Music Video.
