ABOUT GLORIA TREVI

Gloria de los Ángeles Treviño Ruiz, known by her stage name Gloria Trevi, is a Mexican singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, television hostess, music video director, and businesswoman. She has been called "The Mexican Madonna" by many and is known as "The Supreme Diva of Mexican Pop".

CAREER

1985-1995: Early success and initial breakout

Trevi began her career in 1985 as a member of the short-lived girl group Boquitas Pintadas. Three years later, after the group disbanded, she began work on her debut solo album ¿Qué Hago Aquí? (What Am I Doing Here?). The album was a success thanks to the number one hit across Latin America, "Dr. Psiquiatra".

Tu Ángel de la Guarda, her second studio album, was released in 1991. It launched her most widely known hit, "Pelo Suelto", as well as other hit singles: "Tu Angel de la Guarda", "Ya no", "Virgen de las Virgenes", and "Hoy Me Ire de Casa". This album sold around 2,800,000 copies in Mexico, ranking as the tenth best-selling album of all time in the country. "Pelo Suelto", was a worldwide success, reaching number one in several Latin American countries and in Spain. Tu Angel de la Guarda was included by Billboard in their list of the Greatest Latin Albums of All Time. Me Siento Tan Sola, her 1992 follow-up, peaked at number eight on the Latin Pop Albums chart in the United States and launched the hit single "Zapatos Viejos". In 1993, she starred in a film of the same name. Trevi’s fourth studio album, Más Turbada Que Nunca (1994), launched the hit singles  "El Recuento De Los Daños" and "La Papa Sin Catsup". Her final album for a decade, Si Me Llevas Contigo, was released in 1995.

2004-present: Continued success

Trevi returned to music in 2004 with her sixth studio album, Cómo Nace el Universo, which reached number two on the US Latin Pop Albums chart and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Her 2007 follow-up, Una Rosa Blu, was a huge hit for the singer, reaching number five on the Mexican Albums chart, charting in Spain, and reaching number three on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart and number nine on the Top Latin Albums chart, as well as charting on the Billboard 200. In Spain, it was one of the Top 100 best-selling albums in 2009 and it was certified platinum in Mexico and gold in the US. Trevi won Female Artist of the Year at the coveted Premio Lo Nuestro Awards and Female Airplay Song of the Year for "Cinco Minutos" at the Billboard Music Awards. For his work on Una Rosa Blu, producer Sergio George earned a nomination at the Latin Grammy for producer of the year.

In 2011, Trevi released Gloria, which hit number one on the Mexican Albums chart and on the Billboard Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts, as well as charting on the Billboard 200 at number 71. The single "Esa Hembra es Mala" was used as the theme song for the telenovela Teresa.

Two years later, Trevi released her tenth studio album De Pelicula, launching the single "No Querias Lastimarme" ("You Didn't Want to Hurt Me"), which was a critical and massive success. The song reached the top ten of the Latin Billboard charts and topped the charts in several Latin American countries.

Her eleventh studio album, El Amor, is a concept album and passion project for Trevi.  included covers of popular Latin American love ballads, including previous songs from Trevi's catalog as well as new work, and featured Trevi in the guise of two alter-egos, Mr. Trevi and Mrs. Gloria. The album topped both Billboard Latin Albums chart and produced the singles  "Como Yo Te Amo" ("How I Love You") and "Las Pequeñas Cosas" ("The Little Things").

Trevi’s most recent album, Versus, is a collaboration with fellow Mexican artist Alejandra Guzmán. In the summer and fall of 2017, the two artists embarked on the Versus World Tour together.
