Mac Demarco Concerts Tickets

Mac DeMarco has become a darling of lo-fi indie rock over the past decade or more, delivering consistently excellent albums of laid-back, jangly, psychedelic tunes that DeMarco himself likes to call "jizz jazz"! Also described as "blue wave" and "slacker rock", his music is for the intelligent but disenfranchised who like to live life at their own pace...

ABOUT MAC DEMARCO

Born Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV (changed to McBriare Samuel Lanyon DeMarco at the age of four by his mother), Mac DeMarco is a Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer.

When he was attending McKernan School for junior high, DeMarco began having guitar lessons from his grandmother. During his high school years, he was a member of several bands, including indie rock band The Meat Cleavers, alternative R&B group The Sound of Love, and post-punk band Outdoor Miners. Upon graduating from Strathcona High School in Edmonton in 2008, DeMarco became a backing musician. Not long after, he relocated from Edmonton, Alberta to Vancouver, British Columbia.

CAREER

2009-2012: Early projects and first solo album

In 2009, DeMarco was a part of the indie rock project Makeout Videotape with whom he self-released the album Heat Wave that year. Alongside bandmates Alex Calder and Jen Clement, DeMarco signed to Unfamiliar Records and toured with Vancouver band Japandroids in 2009 after the album’s release.

Two years later, after Makeout Videotape fizzled out, DeMarco moved to Montreal to start recording as a solo artist. He was signed to Brooklyn-based independent record label Captured Tracks in January 2012 and released his solo debut, a mini four-track LP titled Rock and Roll Night Club, in March of that year.

2012-2015: 2 and Salad Days

DeMarco’s debut full-length solo album, 2, was released on October 16, 2012, via Captured Tracks and reached number 26 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. The album was critically acclaimed, earning a "Best New Music" designation from Pitchfork and a place on the longlist as a nominee for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize on June 13, 2013. "Moving Like Mike", a track from the album, was featured on commercials for Target.

His second full-length studio album, Salad Days, was released on April 1, 2014. The album was once again critically acclaimed and it reached number 30 on the Billboard 200, as well as hitting number 11 on the Top Rock Albums chart. It launched two singles: "Passing Out Pieces" and "Brother," which placed at numbers 10 and 26 respectively on the NME’s list of the top 50 tracks of 2014. The album was also named the publication’s second-best album of 2014. Salad Days was a shortlisted nominee for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize.

In 2015, DeMarco made his first talk-show appearance on Conan. That August, he released the mini-LP Another One. The record debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Rock Albums chart. It also topped the Top Alternative Albums and Independent Albums charts. The month before releasing Another One, DeMarco released a 9-track instrumental album titled Some Other Ones.

2017-2018: This Old Dog

This Old Dog, his third studio album, was released on May 5, 2015. It was preceded by two singles in January, "My Old Man" and "This Old Dog", and two tracks in April: "On The Level" and "One More Love Song". The album reached number 29 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Independent Albums chart, also reaching the top 10 of the Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts.

2019-2020: Here Comes the Cowboy

DeMarco announced his fourth studio album, Here Comes the Cowboy, on March 15, 2019, and shared the first single off the album, "Nobody". The album was released on May 10, 2019, and reached number 10 on the Billboard 200, as well as reaching number two on both the Independent Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts and number three on the Top Rock Albums chart.

On September 7, 2020, DeMarco was featured on "The Curse"; a collaboration with English artist Yellow Days. October saw the release of another collaboration – this time a feature on French musician Myd's single "Moving Men".

DeMarco contributed a cover of the Metallica song "Enter Sandman" to the charity tribute album The Metallica Blacklist, which was released in September 2021.

2021-present: Future

In October 2021, DeMarco returned to live performances following a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On December 10, he was featured on the track "MENTHOL*" by Jean Dawson.
