ABOUT ODESZA

Electronic music duo Odesza is formed of Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight, aka Catacombkid and BeachesBeaches. The pair met during their freshman year at Western Washington University where they studied physics and mathematics and graphic design, respectively. In 2012, the two were in their senior year. Shortly before graduating, they began collaborating together musically.

The project is named after Mills' uncle's vessel, which was named after the Ukrainian city of Odesa. After the boat sank, only his uncle and one other crewmate survived.

CAREER

2012-2014: Summer’s Gone, My Friends Never Die EP, and In Return

Shortly after forming, the band released its debut album, Summer’s Gone, in September 2012. That November, the duo played its first show supporting Teen Daze and Beat Connection. They followed by opening for Pretty Lights on his Analog Future Tour in fall 2013.

In March 2014, they embarked upon their first headline tour. That summer, they played their first festival performance at Sasquatch! Music Festival, followed by slots at over 20 festivals, including Coachella, SXSW, Hangout Festival, Lightning in a Bottle, Governor's Ball Music Festival, Bonnaroo Music Festival, Firefly Music Festival, Free Press Summer Fest, and Lollapalooza. Odesza’s second studio album, In Return, was released on September 9, 2014. Their label debut, released on Counter and NinjaTune, it reached number 42 on the Billboard 200, number 8 on the Independent Albums Chart, and topped the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. That October, they embarked on their In Return Tour, which sold out 28 shows in North America. The album was nominated for Top Dance/Electronic Album at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards and the RAC remix of "Say My Name" was also nominated for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

2015-2016: Foreign Family Collective and touring

In March 2015, Odesza launched Foreign Family Collective – an ‘independent record label, creative community, & family’. That November, they followed by launching their official mobile app on iOS and Android.

After continuing on the road with their sold-out In Return Fall Tour, the duo released the video for their single "It's Only" (featuring Zyra) on January 18, 2016.

2017: A Moment Apart

Odesza released two digital singles, "Late Night" and "Line of Sight" featuring WYNNE and Mansionair, in April 2017. In June, they released two additional digital singles ("Meridian" and "Corners of the Earth" featuring RY X) ahead of their third studio album, A Moment Apart. The album was released on September 8, 2017. It features guest appearances from Leon Bridges, Kelsey Bulkin, The Chamanas, Mansionair, Sasha Alex Sloan, Regina Spektor, Naomi Wild, WYNNE, and RY X. A Moment Apart debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and also topped the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

In support of the release, the duo set out on the A Moment Apart Tour, which sold out huge venues including Staples Center and Barclays Center. On September 12, 2018, Odesza released the single, “Loyal”, which peaked at 19th on the US dance chart. It was featured in adverts for Apple and Nissan, as well as in the release trailer for the Fortune Island expansion of the 2018 video game Forza Horizon 4. That October, Foreign Family Collective announced its first Odesza-curated festival, Sundara. Held in Mexico, it was a four-day festival, running from March 13 – 16, 2019. It featured artists including  RL Grime, Rüfüs du Sol, Alison Wonderland, and Jai Wolf, among others.
