ABOUT ELLE KING

Tanner Elle Schneider is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, television personality, and actress known by the stage name Elle King. King was born in Los Angeles, California to then-Saturday Night Live cast member Rob Schneider and former model London King. She spent her youth growing up in Ohio, between Wellston and Columbus and found her love of music aged nine when her step-father gave her a record by the all-female hard-rock band The Donnas. She then began learning the guitar at age 13 and, inspired by her love of Hank Williams and Earl Scruggs, she later began learning the banjo. After graduating from Elisabeth Irwin High School/Little Red School House in Manhattan, New York, she matriculated at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she studied painting and film.

CAREER

2005-2013: Career beginnings

When she was 16, King used a fake ID to gain entry to local New York City nightclubs so that she could perform. A regular on the scene, she crafted her songwriting skills and began busking around town to improve on her performance.

In 2010, King was the opening act for Dashboard Confessional, and the following year she opened for Of Monsters and Men.

King was signed by RCA Chairman Peter Edge, releasing her debut single, "Good To Be A Man", on March 13, 2012. In June, she launched her debut EP, The Elle King EP. "Playing for Keeps", the lead single from her EP, was chosen as the theme song for VH1's Mob Wives Chicago.

Later on that year, Esquire Magazine chose King as an "Artist to Watch in 2012". 2012 also saw her opening for Train and Michael Kiwanuka, and she opened for Dropkick Murphys and Ed Sheeran in 2013.

2014-present: Love Stuff and Shake the Spirit

"Ex's & Oh's", the lead single to King’s debut album, was released in September 2014. It was an international hit and reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as topping the Billboard Hot Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts. The album, Love Stuff, was released in February 2015. It reached number 26 on the Billboard 200, number three on the Top Rock Albums chart, and number two on the Top Alternative Albums chart. That summer, King toured with Modest Mouse in the UK. "Under the Influence" and "America's Sweetheart" were also released as singles from Love Stuff.

In February 2016, "Ex's & Oh's" received two nominations at the 58th Grammy Awards: Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. That July, her single "Good Girls" featured on the Ghostbusters soundtrack and played over the movie's credits. The song "Different for Girls" – a duet between King and Dierks Bentley – was released on June 6, 2016, as the second single from Bentley's eighth studio album Black (2016). The song hit number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and the top five on the Hot Country Songs chart. It also won "Vocal Event of the Year" at the 2016 CMA Awards and was nominated for the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. On March 6, 2017, King released the new single "Wild Love".

Her second studio album, Shake the Spirit, was released on October 18, 2019, peaking at number nine on the Top Rock Albums chart and number six on the Top Alternative Albums chart.

In 2020, King won an ACM Award for Music Event of the Year for "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" with Caylee Hammack, Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, and Tenille Townes.

On February 26, 2021, King released "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)" with country singer Miranda Lambert.
