With his coaxing, gravely voice, Shakey Graves is a long, slow, rolling stream of Americana. Like a good drink of whisky, he inhabits the space where folk meets country, and he avoids any hint of over-nostalgia, remaining tongue-in-cheek and fresh!
An excellent live performer, Shakey Graves is absolutely one to catch on tour - tickets available by clicking on the links!
Alejandro Rose-Garcia, aka Shakey Graves, is an Americana musician from Austin, Texas. Before he began his music career, he was an actor known for his roles in Friday Night Lights and the Spy Kids franchise.
Graves began his career performing with a one-man-band set-up, using a modified suitcase that functions as both a kick drum and a tambourine stand. In 2011, he self-released his debut album, Roll the Bones, and the majority of the album features him as a solo performer. That year, he joined the Edward Sharpe and Mumford & Sons Railroad Revival Tour as the tour’s official “busker,” performing for audience members when they entered the venue.
In 2012, he released the EP The Donor Blues, which features several songs that were recorded as early as 2009.
Graves piqued the interest of several record labels and eventually signed with Dualtone Records, with whom he released his debut studio album, And the War Came, on October 7, 2014. That month, he made his television debut on Conan, followed by the Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Seth Meyers.
2015 brought a performance at Austin City Limits festival and, in November, Shakey Graves won the Best Emerging Artist award at the 2015 Americana Music Awards.
On June 30, 2017, he released The Donor Blues and Nobody's Fool as a collection titled Shakey Graves and the Horse He Rode In On on vinyl and streaming services.
On May 4, 2018, he released his third studio album, Can’t Wake Up. All three of Graves’ albums reached the top 10 of the Billboard Folk Albums chart.
On May 9, 2020, Graves released the Look Alive EP. To mark the 10th anniversary of his debut album, he re-released Roll the Bones via Dualtone Records as Roll the Bones X, including previously unreleased songs that were not on the original album.
