ABOUT GRETA VAN FLEET
Greta Van Fleet was formed by twin brothers Josh and Jake Kiszka, their younger brother Sam, and Kyle Hauck in Frankenmuth, Michigan in 2012. The rock band took its name from a fellow Frankenmuth resident Gretna Van Fleet, with her blessing.
The band recorded three songs: "Cloud Train", "Highway Tune" and "Standing On" before Hauck was forced to leave as their drummer and was replaced later that year by their friend Danny Wagner. Jake Kiszka has cited that the initial guitar riff for their song "Highway Tune" was written as early as 2010.
In February 2014, the band recorded a live EP in one take, releasing it that June. In March, the band’s song "Standing On" was featured in 2014 Chevy Equinox advertisements in the Detroit area. "Standing On", along with "By the Riverside", "Cloud Train", "Down to the River", "Motown Funk No. 4", "Sing in the Rain", "Thunder Stomp", "Occidentalli", and "Written in Gold", is a song that the band had previously released but are currently unavailable.

The band performed the song "Highway Tune" live on the Showtime show Shameless in January 2016. Three days later, the band released its debut EP, Black Smoke Rising and the same day they were named as Apple Music’s Artist of the Week. That May, the band toured with The Struts.
At the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan, just minutes from their hometown, the band opened for fellow Michian native Bob Seeger on September 7, 2017. The band won Best New Artist at the Loudwire Music Awards in October 2017. October also saw the release of the single "Safari Song", which went on to top the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The following month, they released a second EP, From the Fires. The eight-song double EP features the four songs from Black Smoke Rising, new recordings "Edge of Darkness" and "Talk on the Street", and covers of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and Fairport Convention's "Meet on the Ledge".
