Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre was and is an exciting concert space that lies in the heart of downtown Detroit. It is a gorgeous waterfront venue that has, since it opened, become the epicenter of live summer entertainment in the city. It’s an incredible space with breathtaking views, sublime acoustics, and some of the clearest sightlines of its type. It’s also special in having space for 6,000 guests including 5,000 seated spaces and 1,000 lawn spaces atop a hill.
According to Pollstar polls, it is in the top 100 of concert industry venues in the world. And many guests and visitors call it their favorite venue in the US, with some even calling it one of the best in the world. And because of this commitment to quality experiences, it has an enduring legacy of quality shows and timeless memories that keeps visitors coming back again and again and again.
Past Performers
It’s no surprise that Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre has hosted a variety of concerts. But what may be surprising is the sheer collection of famous musicians, artists, and bands that have taken the stage and called it their own during tours, special events, and festivals. These cover a wide range of musical styles and genres with performances that have been some of the best for these artists.
Here is a small list of some of the performers that have hit the stage.

The Aretha Franklin Amphiteatre has seating for 5,000 guests in standard seating and 1,000 in the lawn area. Standard seating is designed for comfort in an outdoor area with covering to reduce glare and wind and allow for a comfortable atmosphere during the show. Seating is divided into four column with two rows, with the nearest section to the stage having the closest view. But careful consideration has been offered to ensure that all seating is comfortable and has excellent sightlines to the stage.
Handicapped accessibility
Guests with accessibility requirements or mobility needs will find that accessibility seating is available. Wheelchair seating is on the main walk, with one companion seat next to each for a guest in a folding chair. Guests may call 313-393-7128 if they have emergency accessibility seating needs. But they should try and call as soon as possible so the venue can assist you to its best ability.
The West Gate Entrance is the best entrance for easy accessibility.
To make your visit to the show safe and enjoyable, Aretha Frankling Amphitheatre has created a set of rules. Please take the time to read and understand these rules before coming down to the show. Failure to abide by them may result in expulsion from the venue without refund.

Cancelation Policy
Events happen rain or shine and are rarely canceled. However, if an event is canceled then information will be posted as soon as possible about next steps (including potential rainchecks or rescheduling).
COVID-19 Policy
Effective July 1, 2021 the State of Michigan mandate requiring masks for outdoor venues has been removed. However, in keeping the Aretha a safe space please wear a mask if you are not fully vaccinated. To date, the venue does not ask for proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test result to attend shows.
Refund Policy
Generally ticketed events do not allow refunds or exchanges. However, if the event is canceled due to weather or circumstances beyond your control, then they will attempt to reschedule the event. If that is impossible, then you may be eligible for a refund.

Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre is located at 2600 Atwater Street. Detroit, MI 48207. To reach the venue, you may find it along the Detroit River less than 1 mile east of the Renaissance Center. Take East Jefferson to Chene and head towards the riverfront. Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre is ahead about 3 blocks.
Alternately, you may use your choice of map making software or GPS system to get you to the front gate.
Once you arrive, there is plenty of well-lit parking available on the grounds.
