When Orion Amp was first built, the city of Huntsville knew they were on to something special. Because the magnificent outdoor venue was designed to be a place built by the people of Huntsville, for the people of Huntsville. And what they built was a venue that would become a major part of music history with space for 8,000 guests at each event, to be a part of that history.
In fact, some have said that the venue is more than an amphitheater. It’s also a facility to help the community grow its music and cultural economy. A place to celebrate the classics as well as the brand new trends in music and the live performance arts. The venue provides a way for the city to become curators who are empowered to develop its own creative content that matches the spirit and character of Huntsville. And with this forged identity, it would be able to share this vision with the world, while welcoming the world’s best performers to perform on their cutting edge stage.
To date, the venue has hosted everything from community events, holiday events, arts and music festivals, markets, as well as commercial concerts by the world’s biggest names in a variety of genres. The stage has served countless music lovers who have gotten to see the growth of the world’s most talented individuals live on one of the best outdoor stages in their side of the country.
How it Feels to be in the Crowd
But what is it like being a part of the crowd? How could Orion Amp stand out compared to other live music venues.
First, keep in mind that the venue is close to the iconic Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. This makes it part of the Americana Music Triangle which is known for its cultural achievement and the birthplace of one of the country’s greatest musical exports which includes the blues, soul, and rock’n’roll. This means that if you crave venues that are proud of their heritage and background, then you’ll find it here.
And this pride is carried off into the spirit of the audiences and regulars that practically call Orion Amp their second musical home. There’s a certain joy and energy that is unmistakably Huntsville in essence and is encouraging and welcoming to fellow music lovers whether local or out-of-towner.
Basically, everyone’s at Orion Amp to have a good time and you are more than welcome to join the fun.
The Future of Huntsville
In December, 2018, Mayor Battle delivered his “State of the City” address where he mentioned Orion Amp and the role it would play in the city’s future. He believes that the venue can help nurture the community’s quality of life by providing a place for arts education and appreciation as well as furthering the city’s enduring musical legacy.
This requires an open bond and relationship with the people of Huntsville as well as the passion, knowledge, and support that drives a community towards the future. And by all accounts, Orion Amp is more than ready for the challenge.
But that’s not all!
Because with space for 8,000 visitors, guests, and music lovers across a massive multi-sectioned seating space, Orion Amp has also drawn the eyes of the biggest performers in the world. Even now, commercial concerts and tour dates are being planned for special one-time-only events that will take over the stage and make the city shine!
All of your favorite artists from many of the top musical genres have already played on the Orion Amp stage and this year will continue that trend. And many critics will tell you that there’s something special about Orion Amp’s vibe and community that makes even the brightest stars shine that much more.

Orion Amp was designed so that every guest had a great view of the stage and would have plenty of space while enjoying the show. This incredible feat means that about 8,000 music fans can enjoy the music whether they are up close near the pit seating area or in the back on the massive and gorgeous lawn space seating.
What the Seating Is Like
For most events, the closest area to the stage is reserved seating with provided fold-out chairs. These chairs will be numbered before you arrive so you know what rows and columns you should move to before the opening acts. This seating is generally sturdy and comfortable and gives you the best view of the action on stage.
For most shows, what follows are three rows of seating that may be general admission lawn space seating or reserved seating space depending on the needs of the visiting performer. Sometimes this may include temporary bleachers or folding chairs arranged so that guests have a clear view of the stage from all angles.
