ABOUT AUGUST BURNS RED

August Burns Red is an American metalcore band, consisting of lead guitarist John Benjamin "JB" Brubaker, rhythm guitarist Brent Rambler, drummer Matt Greiner, lead vocalist Jake Luhrs, and bassist Dustin Davidson. The band first formed when the members were still in high school and used to practice on Greiner’s family’s farm in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

CAREER

2004-2006: Debut EP and Thrill Seeker

Having built a fanbase locally, and having played many shows around Lancaster, the band recorded their debut EP, Looks Fragile After All, with local independent label CI Records in 2004. Later that year, lead vocalist John Hershey quit the band, with Josh McManness stepping in to take his place. The following year, having solidified their sound with McManness, the band signed with Solid State Records. They released their debut album, Thrill Seeker, through the label in November 2005.

2006-2009: Messengers

In 2006, after August Burns Red finished touring to promote Thrill Seeker, McManness left the band. He was shortly followed by bassist Jordan Tuscan. They were replaced by Jake Luhr and Dustin Davidson, respectively. Messengers, the band’s second album and first with its new members, was released in July 2007. The album became their breakthrough, charting on the Billboard 200 at number 81.

2008 saw the band touring throughout North America and Europe to promote the album, often with other bands, including As I Lay Dying, Misery Signals, A Skylit Drive, Sky Eats Airplane, Greeley Estates, and This or the Apocalypse. That December, they recorded an instrumental version of "Carol of the Bells" for the X Christmas compilation album. The track was featured in trailers for the film, The Spirit, released on Christmas Day 2008.

In February 2009, the band released the EP Lost Messengers: The Outtakes, featuring tracks that were considered but ultimately not used for Messengers, as well as tracks related to the songs on the album. The following month, they released a cover of Britney Spears’ "...Baby One More Time" for the Punk Goes Pop 2 compilation album and also played the Dubai Desert Rock Festival. Throughout April and May 2009, they toured with metalcore band All That Remains.

2009-2011: Constellations and All That Remains

In June 2009, August Burns Red released several tracks and a music video ahead of their upcoming album, including "Thirty and Seven", "Existence", and "Ocean of Apathy". Their third studio album, Constellations, was released on July 14, 2009, and reached number 24 on the Billboard 200, as well as reaching number two on the Hard Rock Albums chart and number eight on the Rock Albums chart. To promote the album, the band embarked on a headlining tour with support from  Blessthefall, Enter Shikari, All Shall Perish, and Iwrestledabearonce. They then followed with a short tour in Australia with Architects in support of Australian band Parkway Drive. Throughout November and December 2009, the band toured with  Underoath and Emery.

Their first live CD/DVD, Home, was released on September 28, 2010. That December, they performed alongside Parkway Drive, A Day to Remember, NOFX, Dropkick Murphys, Suicide Silence, Megadeth, Descendents, Gwar, and many others on the No Sleep Til Festival in Australia and New Zealand.

2011-2013: Leveler and Sleddin’ Hill

Throughout May and June 2011, August Burns Red premiered several tracks as a taster of their upcoming album: "Empire", "Internal Cannon", "Divisions", and "Poor Millionaire". Leveler was released on June 21, 2011, in two forms; standard and deluxe, with the deluxe version containing four extra songs, including an acoustic version of the song "Internal Cannon". The album reached number 11 on the Billboard 200 and hit the top spot on the Billboard Rock Albums chart, as well as reaching number two on the Hard Rock Albums chart. After the release, the band played the main stage of the 2011 Vans Warped Tour.

In spring 2012, they headlined the Leveler Tour with Silverstein, Texas in July, I the Breather and Letlive as support acts. Later in the year, they toured Europe with  The Devil Wears Prada and Veil of Maya, and North America with Of Mice & Men and The Color Morale. August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin' Hill, their debut holiday album, was released in August 2012.

2013-2014: Rescue and Restore

Rescue and Restore, the band’s sixth studio album, was released on June 25, 2013. The album peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and reached number two on the Hard Rock Albums chart, number three on the Rock Albums chart, and number one on the Indie Albums chart. That August, the band announced the release of a documentary DVD titled Foreign & Familiar.

2014-2015: Found in Faraway Places

On August 5, 2014, it was announced that the band had signed to Fearless Records. Their first album on the label, Found in Faraway Places, was made available for pre-order on April 13, 2015, along with their new single "The Wake".

From January through March 2015, the band embarked on the Frozen Flame Tour, alongside Miss May I, Northlane, Fit for a King, and ERRA, playing 39 shows in Canada and the United States. Found in Faraway Places was released on June 29 and reached number nine on the Billboard 200. The album also topped the Rock Albums, Hard Rock Albums, and Independent Albums charts.

On December 7, 2015, August Burns Red was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Metal Performance category for their song "Identity".

2016-2018: Phantom Anthem

The band embarked on their Messengers 10th Anniversary Tour on January 4, 2017, with supporting artists, Protest the Hero, In Hearts Wake, and '68.

Their new album, Phantom Anthem, was released on October 6, 2017. It peaked at number 19 on the Billboard 200. August Burns Red received a Grammy nomination for their song "Invisible Enemy" in the Best Metal Performance category in November 2017.

2019-present: Guardians

The band embarked on the Constellations 10th Anniversary World Tour spanning from June 21 to December 2019.

"Defender", the lead single from their ninth studio album, Guardians, was released in February 2020. It was followed by "Bones" and "Paramount", before the album itself was released on April 3, 2020. Following the album’s release, the band embarked on a full North American tour in support of Killswitch Engage. In December 2020, the band released a cover of System of a Down's "Chop Suey!".

For the 10th anniversary of the album Leveler, it was re-recorded with guest musicians, alternate tunings, and new guitar solos. The anniversary edition was released on May 21, 2021.

On March 26, 2022, August Burns Red announced that they had signed to SharpTone Records. They also released a demo track teaser for their ninth studio album.
