ABOUT BIG TIME RUSH

Pop boy band Big Time Rush was formed in 2009 and is comprised of Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logan Henderson, and Carlos PenaVega.

CAREER

2009-2011: Formation and BTR

In 2009, Big Time Rush was signed to Nickelodeon with both a record deal and a deal for the television series Big Time Rush, which ran from 2009 to 2013. Nickelodeon partnered with Columbia/Epic Label Group to produce the show and include the original music to the show. Their debut single, "Big Time Rush", was released on November 29, 2009 and became the show’s opening theme. The series also featured the promotional singles  "City is Ours" and "Any Kind of Guy", as well as a cover of the Play song "Famous", and the single "Halfway There", which became their first song to chart on the Billboard 200.

On September 21, 2010, Big Time Rush released the single, "Till I Forget About You". The following month the band released its debut album BTR. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200, number 4 on the Internet Albums chart and number one on the Soundtracks chart. It has been certified gold in the US.

A Christmas special of the Big Time Rush show premiered in November 2010 and on November 30, they released the Holiday EP Holiday Bundle, with two songs: "Beautiful Christmas" and a cover of Mariah Carey’s "All I Want for Christmas".

On February 15, 2011, "Boyfriend" was released as the band's third official single to mainstream U.S. radio. The song charted internationally, peaking at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number 30 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart. "Boyfriend" was nominated for a Premios Oye! award in Mexico (similar to the Grammy Award in the United States) for Best International English Song of the Year 2011. That year, Big Time Rush was also nominated for MTV's Breakthrough Band Award.

2011-2012: Elevate and film

Just after Nickelodeon announced that the show would be renewed for a third season, the band announced its second studio album. "If I Ruled the World" featuring Iyaz was released in July 2011 as the lead single from the album. The album itself, Elevate, was released that November, debuting at number 12 on the Billboard 200. "Music Sounds Better with U", written by the band and Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, was released on November 1, 2011, and peaked at number 26 on the U.S. Mainstream Top 40. It was followed by  "Windows Down", which was released on June 25, 2012.

The band promoted the album with its debut headlining tour, the 16-date US Better With U Tour, which took place in February and March 2012. JoJo and One Direction were the opening acts. The Big Time Summer Tour was the band’s second concert tour and first official world tour, taking place from July through October 2012.

In March 2012,  Big Time Movie was released – the band’s first feature film. An EP, Big Time Movie Soundtrack EP, was released in conjunction with the film. The movie had over thirteen million views during its premiere weekend.

2013-2014: 24/Seven

Nickelodeon renewed the Big Time Rush series for a 13-episode fourth season, with production starting on January 7, 2013. The band released the promotional single "Like Nobody's Around" to coincide with the season.

The band’s second studio album, 24/Seven, was released on June 11, 2013, and debuted at number four on the Billboard 200. It features the singles "24/Seven" and "We Are".

Big Time Rush was nominated for World's Best Group, Best Album, and Best Live Act for the 22nd annual World Music Awards, winning Best Live Act.

Once the Big Time Rush television show had finished in 2013, the band continued touring into March 2014 but then embarked upon an indefinite hiatus.  Kendall Schmidt reformed the band Heffron Drive with Dustin Belt in May 2013.

2020-present: Reunion

On April 20, 2020, the band reunited virtually, uploading a video onto the band's social media platforms wishing their fans well during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Two months later, the band released an acoustic cover of "Worldwide" and that December, member James Maslow uploaded a video to YouTube of the band performing their song "Beautiful Christmas".

On July 19, 2021, the group released a video announcing reunion performances that December. On December 13, 2021, they released the single "Call It Like I See It". This was followed by "Not Giving You Up" on February 25.
