Canadian electronic duo Bob Moses consists of Tom Howie and Jim Vallance. Despite attending the same middle school and high school in Vancouver and sharing a similar taste in music, Howie and Vallance were only acquaintances until later in life.
Vallance moved to New York City after high school, where he began working for a record engineering company for Dutch artist Matthew Dekay on Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream imprint. After a year at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, Howie also moved to New York. The two bumped into each other by chance in a Lowe's hardware store parking lot. They started dabbling in music together and, after moving in together, began making tracks as a duo. They sent what they had made to Frank & Tony at Scissor and Thread and chose the name ‘Bob Moses’ after the New York Architect Robert Moses.
2012-2014: Career beginnings and first EPs
The duo released their debut EP, Hands to Hold, in October 2012. Their sound incorporated experimental sounds that drew from Howie’s background in rock music and Vallance’s in trance. Not long after the release of their first EP, they release a second – Far From the Tree.
Bob Moses signed to Domino Records in March 2014.
2015-2017: Days Gone By
Days Gone By, their debut album, was released on September 18, 2015. The album launched the single "Tearing Me Up", which went on to earn Grammy Award nominations for Best Dance Recording and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. The track went on to win Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for remixer RAC. The song peaked at number 16 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart.
The following August, almost a year later, a special Never Enough edition of Days Gone By was released, featuring remixes of "Like It or Not" and "Tearing Me Up", as well as two new bonus tracks, "She Don't Mind" and "Here We Are", and live versions of several of their songs.
Bob Moses was nominated for Live Act of the Year at the 2017 Electronic Music Awards.
2018: Battle Lines
Late May 2018 brought the announcement that Bob Moses would be heading out on tour in North America. They also released the single "Heaven Only Knows". The following month they announced their new album, Battle Lines, due for release in September. They also released their lead single from the album, "Back Down." Battle Lines was released on September 14, 2018. On December 12, they released a four-track EP, Unplugged, which featured acoustic versions of three songs from the Battle Lines album, plus a cover of the song "Save a Prayer" by Duran Duran.
