ABOUT SNOH AALEGRA

Snoh Aalegra was born Shahrzad Fooladi on 13 September 1987 in Uppsala, Sweden to Persian parents. She was raised in Enköping, Sweden before moving to Stockholm and began playing music aged nine. At 13, in 2001, she was signed to Sony Music Sweden on a development deal, but she ultimately left the company without having released any music.

CAREER

2009-2013: Career beginnings as Sheri and First Sign

Under the mononym Sheri, Aalegra began her music career in 2009, releasing her debut single "Hit and Run" on 16 February. The single peaked at number 12 on the Swedish Single Charts and was followed in December by "U Got Me Good", which reached number two. As Sheri, she released her debut album, First Sign, with Universal Music Sweden on April 6, 2010.

In 2013, she signed with No I.D.’s ARTium Recordings.

2014-2018: Debut as Snoh Aalegra and Feels

With the new name Snoh Aalegra, she featured on the song "Hustle Harder" from Common’s album Nobody’s Smiling, released in July 2014. Her debut single, "Bad Things" featuring Common, was released in October 2014 followed by her debut EP, There Will Be Sunshine, on November 17. The EP includes the single "Stockholm, Pt. II (Outro)" featuring Cocaine 80s. That year, Prince discovered her music and reached out to her, becoming her mentor until his death in 2016.

In February 2015, she released her debut single under the name Snoh Aalegra – the RZA-produced "Emotional". That June, she featured as a vocalist on the track "Jump Off the Roof" from Vince Staples' debut album, Summertime '06.

Aalegra’s EP Don’t Explain was released on April 8, 2016, featuring a cover of the 1944 song, "Don't Explain" by Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr. The track "Under the Influence" features guitar from John Mayer and the final song on the EP, "Chaos", was written by Sia.

2017 saw Aalegra embark on her first headlining tour with Daniel Caesar in support. That October, she released her debut album, Feels. The album has features from Vince Staples, Vic Mensa, Logic, and Timbuktu. Drake sampled Aalegra’s single "Time" on "Do Not Disturb", the closing track on his 2017 mixtape More Life.

In September 2018, her single "Nothing Burns Like the Cold" featuring Vince Staples, was used in Apple’s iPhone XS announcement video and commercials. That fall, Aalegra headlined her first North American tour, supported by Mereba and Leven Kali.

2019-present: Urgh, Those Feels Again and Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies

Aalegra released her second album, Ugh, Those Feels Again, on August 16, 2019. Intended to be a sequel to feels, peaked at number 3 on the Billboard R&B Album Sales chart, number 6 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart, and also charted on the Billboard 200. The album launched the single "I Want You Around", which reached number one on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart.

Later that year, she recorded the track "Wolves Are Out Tonight" for the soundtrack to the 2019 EPIX television series Godfather of Harlem. That fall, she headlined a European and North American tour, which featured support from Baby Rose and Giveon and reached number one on the Bandsintown and Billboard Global Rising Artists Index. In December, Aalegra released the video to her single "Whoa", starring herself and actor Michael B. Jordan.

February 2020 saw her perform an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. The following month, she signed a recording contract with Roc Nation/Universal Music Group in partnership with her current label ARTium Records. She released her first single with the labels, "Dying 4 Your Love", on July 10, 2020. That October, Aalegra was featured on "Last Time", on Giveon's second EP, When It's All Said and Done.

Her third album, Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies, was released on July 9, 2021. It hit number 24 on the Billboard 200 and number 16 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart.
