ABOUT LANY

Lany (standing for Los Angeles New York) is a pop band that was formed in Nashville in 2014 by Paul Jason Klein and Jake Clifford Goss.

CAREER

2014-2017: Musical beginnings and LANY

In March 2014, Klein (who was performing a the time as a solo artist) flew to Nashville to meet with Goss and their mutual friend Les Priest. At the time, Goss and Priest had another project, WRLDS, but after forming Lany they decided to discontinue the project. A few weeks later, they released the singles "Hot Lights" and "Walk Away" to their SoundCloud account. The tracks drew industry attention within six days and the band began to receive emails from a number of record labels. They released their debut EP, Acronyms, later that year. The EP launched the single "ILYSB", which generated significant interest online, as well as the songs "Made in Hollywood" and "Bad, Bad, Bad".

The following year, the band toured in support of  Twin Shadow, Tove Styrke, X Ambassadors, Troye Sivan and Halsey. They also performed at several festivals, including Lollapalooza, and released their second EP, I Loved You. That December, Lany was signed to Polydor Records with whom they put out a re-release EP titled Make Out, consisting of all songs (not including "Hot Lights" and "OMG") released prior to I Loved You. In February 2016, they supported Troye Sivan, followed by Ellie Goulding in March. That month, they also released the single "Where the Hell Are My Friends". After headlining a tour in May, LANY played a series of festivals, including Bonnaroo, Firefly, and Outside Lands. They then followed this in September with another headline tour which included 14 European dates and 37 US dates, called the Kinda Tour in support of their EP of the same name.

In early-2017, Lany supported John Mayer on his The Search for Everything Tour.

The band’s self-titled debut alum was released on June 30, 2017, reaching number 32 on the Billboard 200, as well as number five on the Top Alternative Albums chart and number four on the Top Rock Albums chart. It launched the singles "Good Girls" "It Was Love", "The Breakup", "13", and "Super Far". LANY spent the summer of 2017 playing festivals and touring Australia and Asia and from September through November 2017 they toured North America, before embarking upon a European tour throughout the winter.

2018-2019: Malibu Nights

On April 5, 2018, Lany performed a sold-out show at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in the Philippines. "Thru These Tears", the lead single from their second studio album, was released on July 17. It was followed by "I Don't Wanna Love You Anymore" in August. The album, Malibu Nights, was released on October, 5th, 2018. To promote it, the band embarked on a year-long world tour that month.

On April 23, 2019, the band released its first collaborative single, "Okay" with singer Julia Michaels. They then featured on Lauv’s song “Mean It”, from his debut album How I'm Feeling.

2020-present: Mama’s Boy and gg bb xx

Lany’s third studio album, Mama’s Boy, was released on October 2, 2020, preceded by the singles "Good Guys", "If This Is the Last Time", and "You!". The album hit number 7 on the Billboard 200 and number two on the Top Alternative Albums chart.

A deluxe edition of the album was released on February 4, 2021, featuring three new tracks: "Heart Won't Let Me" (stripped), "Sad" (stripped), and "I Still Talk to Jesus" (live).

The band released its fourth studio album, gg bb xx, on September 3, 2021. As with its predecessor, the band released a deluxe edition of the album in November 2021, which features the collaborative tracks "I Quit Drinking" with Kelsea Ballerini, and "Stupid Feelings" with 220 Kid.
