ABOUT MØ

Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen, or MØ as she is known professionally, is a Danish singer and songwriter who grew up in Ejlstrup on the island of Funen, Denmark. Her first interest in music came at the age of 7 when she began listening to the Spice Girls. As she got older, she began to take an interest in punk music and anti-fascist movements, particularly listening to Sonic Youth.

CAREER

2006-2012: Side projects and MOR

The Edmunds was a project that MØ began in 2006, releasing tracks such as "Garbage King" and "Polly Get Your Gun". Over the next few years (2008-2010), she was involved in several other projects, releasing tracks including "A Piece of Music to F*ck to" and "The Rarities".

In 2007, she formed a duo with Josefine Struckmann Pedersen called MOR. The twosome released two EPs, Fisse I Dit Fjæs("Pussy in Your Face") and Vanvidstimer("Madness Hours"), in 2009 and 2011, respectively. After five years together, the duo disbanded in 2012 for personal reasons.

2012-2015: No Mythologies to Follow and collaborations

2012 saw the beginnings of MØ recording a cappella pop songs and collaborating with producer Ronni Vindahl. "Glass", her debut single, was released on January 14, 2013. This was followed by the single "Pilgrim" and its B-side "Maiden" on March 15, 2013. "Pilgrim" was certified platinum in Denmark and peaked at number eleven on the Danish Singles Chart.

That June, MØ released the single "Waste of Time". The following month, she released "XXX 88" (featuring Diplo). On September 13, 2013, Avicii released his album True, which features MØ on the track "Dear Boy". Bikini Daze, her first EP, was released on 18 October 2013. October also saw her supporting AlunaGeorge on their UK tour dates.

No Mythologies to Follow, MØ's debut studio album, was released on 7 March 2014. It was released to critical acclaim and peaked at number two on the Danish Albums chart and number 11 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. To promote her album, she toured Europe and the US throughout spring and summer 2014. She made her US television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on June 2, 2014, performing the songs "Don't Wanna Dance" and "Pilgrim". Later in June, she released "Walk This Way" as the seventh and final single from No Mythologies to Follow.

"Beg for It", the 2014 lead single from Iggy Azalea’s album Reclassified, features MØ and became her first top 30 hit in the US, reaching number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. That September, she collaborated with Elliphant on the single "One More" and in November "All My Love" by Major Lazer featuring Ariana Grande was released, which MØ co-wrote.

In another co-writing collaboration with Major Lazer, MØ was the featured vocalist on the song "Lean On" with DJ Snake, which was released in March 2015. "Lean On" was recognized by the IFPI as the fifth best-selling song of 2015 worldwide, and one of the best-selling singles of all time, with global sales of 13.1 million. The song was named by Spotify as the most-streamed song of all time, with over one billion streams globally as of June 2017. Its music video premiered on April 30, 2015, and became the sixteenth most viewed video on YouTube with over 2.5 billion views on the site.
