ABOUT LARKIN POE
Larkin Poe is fronted by sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell. In 2005, when they were teenagers, the siblings formed the bluegrass/Americana band the Lovell Sisters with their older sister, Jessica. The band released two albums and successfully toured for four years, appearing on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion, the Grand Ole Opry, and performing at Bonnaroo Music Festival. In December 2009, the group disbanded.
CAREER
One month after the Lovell Sisters finished, Larkin Poe was born. The duo took the name from their great-great-great-great-grandfather. Between 2010 and 2013, the duo self-released five EPs: Spring EP (2010), Summer EP (2010), Fall EP (2010), Winter EP (2010), and Thick as Thieves EP (2011). They also collaborated on two records: The Sound of the Ocean Sound with Thom Hell (2013) and Killing Time EP with Blair Dunlop (2013). In addition, they released a DVD of their live performances.
In late 2013, Larkin Poe was signed to RH Music. The following year, they released Kin, their debut album on the label. That March, invited by producer T Bone Burnett, they contributed harmonies and instrumentation on The New Basement Tapes' album Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes alongside Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons, Elvis Costello, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Rhiannon Giddens. They also appeared in its accompanying 2014 Showtime documentary Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued. The duo’s 2014 performance at Glastonbury Festival led to them being named "best discovery of Glastonbury" by The Observer.
2016 saw the duo release an alternate version of Kin under the name Reskinned. Released via Vertigo, Universal, We Love Music, RH Music, and Tricki-Woo Records, the album features five new songs, replacing tracks from the previous version, and a reordered track listing. That July, they appeared on Steven Tyler's album We're All Somebody from Somewhere.
Their sophomore album, Peach, was released in 2017 and was nominated for the Blues Foundation Best Emerging Artist Album. 2018 also brought the release of their third studio album, Venom & Faith, which was released that November. The album topped the Billboard Blues Albums chart and was nominated for the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
Larkin Poe’s follow-up, Self Made Man, was released in March 2020 and also topped the Billboard Blues Albums chart. That November, they released Kindred Spirits - a covers album featuring renditions of songs by Lenny Kravitz, Neil Young, Elvis Presley, Phil Collins, Elton John, and others.
The duo’s sixth studio album, Blood Harmony, is due for release in November 2022.
