ABOUT ANDY GRAMMER

Singer, songwriter, and record producer Andy Grammer was born in Los Angeles in 1983 and grew up in Chester, New York. He learned to play trumpet as a child and went on to learn guitar and piano, beginning to write his own songs at 15 years old. He graduated from the California State University, Northridge in 2007 with a B.A. in music industry studies.

CAREER

2009-2011: Beginnings

Grammer began his musical career as a busker on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. In 2009, he was discovered by Ben Singer, who became his manager, and the following April he signed to S-Curve Records. "Keep Your Head Up", his debut single, was released on November 15, 2010. Its music video, starring Rainn Wilson, was an iTunes Video of the Week and in April 2011 it won MTV's "O Music Awards" for the most innovative video.

In January 2011, Grammer was named an "Artist to Watch" by Billboard magazine. That spring, he supported Plain White T’s on the second leg of their Wonders of the Younger Tour. In March, he performed at SXSW 2011, playing BMI's Acoustic Brunch, where he was among several artists that contributed to a recording produced by Hanson to benefit the victims of the 2011 Japan earthquake.

2011-2013: Andy Grammer

His eponymous debut album was released on June 14, 2011. The album charted on the Billboard 200 and also topped the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Throughout June 2011, Grammer supported Natasha Beddingfield on her Less is More Tour and in August he supported Colbie Caillat on her North American Tour. Beginning in May 2011, he was featured by The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles in the first installment of its homegrown local artist series.

2014-2016: Magazines or Novels

"Back Home", the lead single from Grammer’s second album, Magazines or Novels, was released on April 8, 2014. The album itself was released on August 5, 2014, reaching number 19 on the Billboard 200. That November, he released the album’s second single, "Honey, I'm Good." which peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, and was certified triple-platinum by the RIAA.

The following August, Grammer was announced as one of the celebrities competing in the 21st season of Dancing with the Stars. Grammer and his dance partner Alison Holker were eliminated in Week Eight of the competition and finished in seventh place. While he was still in the competition, he released the single "Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)", which was another gold-certified hit for him, and was featured as part of a re-issued deluxe version of his Magazines or Novels album.

That October, Grammer performed the National Anthem prior to the start of the opening game of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The following January, he performed an a cappella version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Denver Broncos–New England Patriots AFC Championship Game in Denver.

2016-present: The Good Parts and Naive

On July 29, 2016, Grammer released a new single, "Fresh Eyes", which was certified platinum by the RIAA.

Just over a year later, he released "Give Love", a collaborative single with LunchMoney Lewis. He also wrote and performed the song "A Friend Like You" for the animated film Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. His third studio album, The Good Parts, was released on December 1, 2017, and was preceded by the single "Smoke Clears".

In February 2019, he contributed the track "Don't Give Up On Me" to the soundtrack of the film Five Feet Apart. The song is also the lead single from his fourth studio album, Naive, which was released on July 26, 2019. The album reached number 29 on the Billboard 200.

In March 2022, Grammar announced he had signed with Mushroom Publishing.
