ABOUT BABY KEEM

Hykeem Jamaal Carter Jr., aka Baby Keem, was born on October 22, 2000 in Carson, California. A rapper, singer, songwriter and producer, he began writing his own music aged 15. Keem was raised in Las Vaegas, Nevada, but found himself dissatisfied with the local music scene and relocated as a teen. His is Kendrick Lamar’s cousin.

CAREER

2017-2018: Oct, Midnight, No Name

Keem began recording in 2017, releasing his debut EP Oct under ‘Hykeem Carter’ in 2017. His second EP, Midnight, followed in January 2018, with a third - No Name – coming that May.

2018-2019: Baby Keem, Hearts and Darts, features, and mixtapes

In July 2018, Keem released his first EP under the name ‘Baby Keem’ – Hearts and Darts. Two mixtapes followed: The Sound of a Bad Habit (October 2018) and Die For My Bitch (July 2019). "Orange Soda", a single from from Die For My Bitch, was a sleeper hit, charting on the Billboard 200 six months after its release. XXL named the single one of the 50 best hip-hop projects of 2019 and it was certified platinum by the RIAA.

2018 and 2019 also brought songwriting and production credits for Keem. His songs were featured on  Kendrick Lamar's project, Black Panther: The Album, TDE member Jay Rock's Redemption, and Schoolboy Q's Crash Talk, and he co-wrote the song "Nile" from Disney's The Lion King: The Gift.

2020-present: The Melodic Blue

In March 2020, Keem appeared alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jorja Smith, and Yara Shahidi in a four-minute promotional film for Lamar’s multi-disciplinary media company pgLang. That August, Keem was included on XXL’s annual Freshman Class list. The following month, Keem released two songs on one day: "Hooligan", and "Sons & Critics Freestyle".

On March 5, 2021, he released the single "No Sense". This was followed by "Durag Activity" with Travis Scott on April 30th. The single hit the Billboard Hot 100 and is the lead single from his debut album, The Melodic Blue. A second single, "Family Ties" with Kendrick Lamar, was released in August and is his highest-charting single to date, reaching number 18 on the Hot 100. The Melodic Blue was released on September 10, 2021 and was a huge hit, reaching number 5 on the Billboard 200. "Issues", "Cocoa" with Don Toliver, "Trademark USA", and "Range Brothers" with Kendrick Lamar are also singles from the album, released in 2021. "Praise God" featuring Baby Keem and Travis Scott from Kanye West’s album Donda was released on August 29 and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
