ABOUT HALESTORM

Consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Lzzy Hale, her brother drummer and percussionist Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bassist Josh Smith, rock band Halestorm was formed in Red Lion, Pennsylvania in 1997.

Siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale began writing and performing together when they were 10 and 13 years old, respectively. Lzzy had begun learning piano at five years old, progressing later to keytar and taking guitar lessons at the age of 16. Arejay began learning the drums when he was five years old.

As teens, Lzzy and Arejay released two EPs: Forecast for the Future in 1997 and (Don't Mess With The) Time Man in 1999.

In 2003, Joe Hottinger joined the band and the following year, Josh Smith joined the group, replacing the Hales' father who had been playing bass in the band up until that point.

CAREER

2005-2011: Debut

On June 28, 2005, Halestorm signed a contract with Atlantic Records. The band’s major-label debut EP, One and Done, was released on April 28, 2006. They followed in April 2009 with their eponymous debut album. The album peaked at number 40 on the Billboard 200 and reached number 11 on the Top Rock Albums chart and number four on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. The album’s lead single, "I Get Off", received considerable airplay and reached number 17 on Billboard's Hot Rock & Alternative Songs Chart. That November, the band released the song and video for their second single, "It's Not You".

In 2010, singles and videos for "Love/Hate Heartbreak" and "Familiar Taste of Poison" were released. November 2010 brought the release of a live CD/DVD entitled Live in Philly 2010, which was recorded at The TLA in Philadelphia in early 2010.

In March 2011, Halestorm released an EP called ReAnimate. A covers EP, it features hard rock interpretations of six popular songs of different genres and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.

2012-2013: The Strange Case Of...

The band’s fifth EP, Hello, It’s Mz. Hyde, was released on January 24, 2012, reaching number 11 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart. Three months later, Halestorm released its second studio album, The Strange Case Of… The album features the four songs released on their previous EP. It debuted at number seven on the Top Rock Albums chart and number 15 on the Billboard 200, as well as topping the Hard Rock Albums chart. The lead single from the album, "Love Bites (So Do I)", won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance making Halestorm the first female-fronted band to both be nominated and win in that category. In April 2013, Halestorm topped the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for the first time with their single "Freak Like Me". That October, they released their second covers EP, Reanimate 2.0.

2014-2017: Into the Wild Life

In March 2014, Halestorm covered the Dio song "Straight Through the Heart" on the tribute album Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life. The following month, the band released a video on YouTube called A Day in the Life Of Halestorm 2014 (Backstage, Interview & New Song Mayhem).

Into the Wild Life, the band’s third studio album, was released in April 2015. It peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and topped the US Alternative Albums, Rock Albums, and Hard Rock Albums charts. The following month, they released the photo book To Hale And Back in collaboration with photographer Rob Fenn, documenting their career so far.

On January 6, 2017, Halestorm released their third covers album, Reanimate 3.0.

2018-2020: Vicious and Reimagined

Vicious, Halestorm’s fourth studio album, was released in July 2018 and peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200, also topped both the U.S. and UK Rock Albums charts. Its lead single (released on the same day as the album, "Uncomfortable", received a nomination for Best Rock Performance at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. It was followed by "Black Vultures" on June 22 and "Do Not Disturb" on July 19.

In May 2019, "Chemicals" was released as a B-side single. One year later, Halestorm launched the #RoadieStrong campaign to raise financial support for live entertainment crews during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On August 14, 2020, the band released the EP Reimagined.

2021: Back From the Dead

On August 17, 2021, the band released "Back from the Dead" – the first song off their upcoming fifth studio album.
