ABOUT BAYSIDE

Bayside is a punk rock band that was formed in the Bayside area of Queens, New York City in 2000 by vocalist Anthony Maneri and Mike Kozak. The band’s name came about when they were traveling to Long Island to watch New Found Glory. They planned to pass on their demo to the band but needed a name to write on it, so they chose “Bayside”, initially as a temporary name, from seeing the Bayside train station sign.

CAREER

2000-2004: Early years and debut album

The band self-released a five-track demo, which led to a deal with Dying Wish Records who issued their debut studio EP, Long Stories Short, in 2001. In early 2002, the band toured with fellow punk rock/emo acts My Hotel Year, Don't Look Down, A440, Brand New, and Hot Rod Circuit.

That June, Kozak left the band to be replaced by Caroline’s JR Manning. In October, the band supported Shelter for two weeks on their headlining US tour. They spent November and December touring with Unsung Zeros and Junction 18, and the following two weeks with the Rocking Horse Winner and Twothirtyeight.

March 2003 saw the release of a split EP with Dying Wish labelmates Name Taken. Later that year, Bayside signed to Victory Records, who would be their label for the next six years. Their debut full-length album, Sirens and Condolences, was released on January 27, 2004.

2004-2006: Self-titled album and acoustic EP

In August 2005, the band released its self-titled follow-up album. During the album’s promotional tour, the band was involved in a van accident – drummer John "Beatz" Holohan was killed, and bassist Nick Ghanbarian was seriously injured, breaking his vertebrae. Bandmates Anthony Raneri and Jack O'Shea escaped with minor injuries.

February 2006 saw the release of Acoustic – an acoustic album featuring several alternative versions of their songs as well as the song "Winter", which is a tribute to Holohan. Pennsylvania pop-punk band Punchline dedicated their album 37 Everywhere to Holohan’s memory. Aiden, I Am the Avalanche, Silverstein, The Sleeping, and several other bands wrote songs as tributes to his memory.

2006-2009: The Walking Wounded and Shudder

Bayside’s third studio album, The Walking Wounded, was released in February 2007. It was then re-released as The Walking Wounded: Gold Edition on July 22, 2007. The new edition features bonus live acoustic tracks as well as a bonus DVD, including live acoustic recordings, music videos, and documentaries. The album and DVD are the first recordings of drummer Chris Guglielmo as a member of the band. Later that year, a remix of their song "Duality" was featured in the soundtrack to Resident Evil: Extinction.

Shudder, the band’s fourth studio album was released in September 2008. The was preceded by the live album, Live at the Bayside Social Club, which had been leaked onto various file-sharing sites earlier in the month on September 5 and was subsequently released to the band’s MySpace page on September 22.

2009-2012: Killing Time

In May 2009, the band released a cover of "Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston for the Fearless Records' cover compilation album Punk Goes Pop 2.

In March 2010, the band signed to Wind-Up Records. That summer the band finished its fourth stint on the Vans Warped Tour and they spent the rest of 2010 working on its fifth album. Alternative Press then named it one of the most anticipated albums of 2010 in its annual feature.

Killing Time, their fifth studio album was released in February 2011. It was preceded by the single "Sick, Sick Sick", which was released on November 16, 2010. The band co-headlined with Silverstein on the 2011 Take Action Tour, with  Polar Bear Club, The Swellers, and Texas In July as the opening acts. Then, from mid-September to mid-November, they went on tour with Saves The Day, I Am The Avalanche, and Transit. In summer 2012, they once again embarked on the Vans Warped Tour.

2012-2015: Covers Volume #1 and Cult

The band released the cover EP Covers Volume #1 through their own record label Gumshoe Records in October 2012. They included versions of songs by an array of performers, including  Van Morrison, The Ronettes, Del Shannon, Elvis Costello, and Billy Joel. In October and November, they supported Taking Back Sunday for their "Tell All Your Friends" 10 Year Anniversary Tour. The following August, the band announced that it had signed to Hopeless Records.

Cult, their sixth studio album, was released in February 2014 and reached number one on the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart. That April the band went on a UK tour with Alkaline Trio in support of the new album and in the summer they joined the Vans Warped Tour.

In March 2015, Bayside embarked on a 15-year anniversary tour with Senses Fail, Man Overboard, and Seaway. For the tour’s second leg, they were supported by The Early November and Better Off. The tour concluded with a date at Riot Fest in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

2016-present: Vacancy, Acoustic Volume 2, and Interrobang

Vacancy, the band’s seventh studio album, was released through Hopeless Records in August 2016.

A follow-up to 2006’s Acoustic EP, Acoustic Volume 2, was released on September 28, 2018.  It was promoted with a two-leg US tour: first leg in November and December, with the second in January and February 2019.

On August 20, 2019, the band released a new single, titled "Prayers." Exactly one month later, they released the album Interrobang. In November and December 2019, the group embarked on a headlining US tour to promote the album. Each concert featured a local band as an opener who had been picked via a battle of the bands competition that the Bayside had hosted online.

In 2020, the band announced a 20th-anniversary tour with Senses Fail, Hawthorne Heights, and Can't Swim, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
