Country music singer and songwriter Lee Brice was born and raised in Sumter, South Carolina. A musical child, he played piano and guitar, sang in church, and wrote his own songs. He also entered and won three different talent contests in high school and his younger brother, Lewis, was a contestant on Season 1 of Country Music Television's Can You Duet.
Brice attended Clemson University on a football scholarship but after an arm injury decided to concentrate on music as a career.
2007-2009: Beginnings
In 2007, Brice began working as a songwriter, with his songs being picked up by artists including Jason Aldean, Keith Gattis, and Cowboy Crush among others. He co-wrote Garth Brooks's 2007 single "More Than a Memory", the first single in the history of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart to debut at number one.
That year, he signed to Curb Records as an artist in his own right, releasing his debut single "She Ain't Right", which peaked at number 29 on the country chart. He followed with "Happy Endings" and "Upper Middle Class White Trash", which charted at numbers 32 and 44, respectively. The three singles were intended for his debut album, Picture of Me, which was never released.
2009-2010: Love Like Crazy
Brice’s fourth single, "Love Like Crazy", was released in August 2009. It is the lead single and title track from his debut album. The single reached the top 10 on the Hot Country Songs chart in July 2010 during its forty-sixth week on the chart, setting a record for the slowest climb into the top 10. To months later, it charted for a fifty-sixth week, making it the longest-charting song in the chart's history. Eventually, the song peaked at number three on the chart.
The Love Like Crazy album was released in June 2010. It peaked at number nine on the Top Country Albums chart and reached number 44 on the Billboard 200. The album's second single "Beautiful Every Time" was released that October.
2011-2019: Hard 2 Love, I Don’t Dance, and Lee Brice
"A Woman Like You", the lead single from Brice’s second studio album, was released in late-2011. In April 2012, it became his first number one on the Country Airplay chart with "Hard to Love", the album’s title track, becoming his second number one in late-2012. Hard 2 Love was released on April 24, 2012, reaching number five on the Billboard 200 and number two on the Top Country Albums chart. The album's third single, "I Drive Your Truck", was released on December 3, 2012, and reached number one on the Country Airplay chart in 2013. Its fourth single, "Parking Lot Party", peaked at number six on the chart that November.
In early 2014, Brice released the single "I Don't Dance" - the lead single to his third studio album of the same name, which was released on September 9, 2014. "I Don't Dance" became Brice's fourth number one hit in August 2014. The album reached number five on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Country Albums chart. It also launched the singles "Drinking Class" and "That Don't Sound Like You".
Brice released his eponymous fourth studio album in 2017. It has been certified gold by the RIAA.
In October 2019, Carly Pearce released a duet with Brice titled "I Hope You're Happy Now." It reached number 27 on the Billboard 200, number five on the Hot Country Songs chart, and topped the Country Airplay chart.
2020-present: Hey World
Brice released the single "One of Them Girls" in April 2020. The single spent three consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in October 2020, becoming his longest-lasting number one to date. He released his fifth studio album, Hey World, on November 20, 2020.
