ABOUT MADDIE AND TAE

Madison Kay Marlow (born July 7, 1995, in Sugar Land, Texas) and Taylor Elizabeth Dye (born September 18, 1995, in Ada, Oklahoma) met in 2010 at a showcase in Dallas, having both been studying under the same vocal coach. They began making music as a duo and, despite both still attending school, within the year they were travelling to Nashville every weekend to write and perform together. At the time, they performed under the name Sweet Alaina. Once they had both finished high school, they moved to Nashville together to embark upon a music career as Maddie and Tae.

CAREER

2014-2016: Career beginnings and debut EP

In 2014, the duo was the first act to be signed to the newly-revived Dot Records – an imprint of Nashville-based independent label Big Machine Records. That July, their debut single, "Girl in a Country Song," was released, entering the Billboard Country Airplay chart at number 58. By December, the single had reached number one on the chart, becoming the first debut single by a female duo to reach number one since The Wreckers' 2006 single "Leave the Pieces", and only the second in history. It went on to be certified platinum by the RIAA. On November 4, 2014, the duo released its eponymous debut EP, which featured "Girl in a Country Song," as well as three more singles:  "Sierra", "Fly", and "Your Side of Town".

In January of the following year, Maddie and Tae released "Fly" as a single, which they performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. It peaked at number nine on both the Billboard Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts respectively. The duo's debut album, Start Here, was released in August 2015, and charted at number two on the US Top Country Albums Chart, number three on the UK Country Albums Chart, and number seven on the Billboard 200. Later that year, they co-wrote the song "Boomerang" on Jana Kramer's late album Thirty One. In October, Maddie and Tae guest-starred on an episode of the Disney Channel show Girl Meets World. The following month they released the single "Shut Up and Fish," which peaked at numbers 23 and 30 on the Billboard Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts, respectively.

2016 saw the duo release a fourth single from the album: "Sierra". They also performed on the main stage at  C2C: Country to Country festival at The O2 Arena in the UK, and launched a fashion line in collaboration with Bloomingdales.

2017-present: Label change, One Heart to Another, Everywhere I'm Goin, and The Way It Feels

Early 2017 was an exciting time for Maddie and Tae, with the duo earning a place at number 20 on the Forbes 30 Under 30 - Music list, as well as earning two nominations at the 52nd annual Academy of Country Music Awards, including Vocal Duo of the Year. Following the folding of their label, Dot Records, in June 2017, the duo signed with Mercury Nashville in early 2018.

"Friends Don't", their debut single with Mercury and the first off their upcoming album, was released in May 2018 and peaked at number 33 on the US Country Airplay Chart. They followed with "Die from a Broken Heart", which was released in October 2018 and peaked at number one on the US Country Airplay chart, number two on the US Country Albums Chart, and number 22 on the Billboard 200. It also reached number eight on the Canadian Country Albums chart, and has been certified platinum.

In April 2019, the duo released the EP One Heart to Another, which was followed by another EP, Everywhere I'm Goin', that October. In May 2019, the duo joined Carrie Underwood as support for her Cry Pretty Tour 360.

Maddie and Tae's second studio album, The Way It Feels, was released in May 2020. It peaked at number seven on the US Top Country Albums chart and at number eight on the UK Country Albums chart.
