ABOUT BIG K.R.I.T.

Big K.R.I.T. (King Remembered in Time), aka Justin Lewis Scott, is a rapper and record producer, who was born and raised in Meridian, Mississippi, and began rapping in 2005.

CAREER

2005-2010: Beginnings

At the beginning of his career, K.R.I.T. released several mixtapes, including Hood Fame, with DJ Wally Sparks and The Last King, with DJ Breakem Off. 2010’s Pilot Talk, the third album from rapper Curren$y, featured K.R.I.T. on the track "Skybourne". He was also featured on Wiz Khalifa’s critically acclaim mixtape Kush & Orange Juice. Initially, K.R.I.T. used the moniker Kritikal, before using his current stage name.

K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, his critically acclaimed sixth mixtape, was released in May 2010 and features guest appearances from  Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, Devin the Dude, Big Sant and Smoke DZA. That same month, he was signed to Def Jam Records by its current Senior VP of A&R (and former president of G-Unit Records) Sha Money XL.

That October, alongside Curren$y and Smoke DZA, K.R.I.T. co-headlined The Smoker's Club Tour 2010. The following month, he supported Wiz Khalifa for several dates on his Waken Baken Tour.

2011-2015: Live from the Underground and Cadillactica

K.R.I.T. was featured as one of XXL’s annual Top Freshmen of the Year alongside  Meek Mill, Cyhi the Prynce, Lil Twist, Yelawolf, Fred the Godson, Mac Miller, YG, Lil B, Kendrick Lamar and Diggy Simmons.

In March 2011, he released the self-produced mixtape Return of 4Eva, which features guest artists  David Banner, Joi, Big Sant, Chamillionaire, Raheem DeVaughn, Ludacris, and Bun B. The mixtape received widespread and enthusiastic critical acclaim and was named the 32nd best album of 2011 by Rolling Stone, 27th by Spin, and also received an honorable mention from Pitchfork.

From October 12, 2011, until November 24, 2011, K.R.I.T. co-headlined The Smoker's Club Tour once again, alongside Curren$y and Method Man.

Live from the Underground, K.R.I.T.’s debut album, was released on June 5, 2012. It hit number one on both the Billboard Top Rap Albums and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts and reached number five on the Billboard 200. It launched four singles: "Money on the Floor", "I Got This", "Yeah Dat's Me" and "What U Mean". Throughout summer 2012, he embarked on the Live from the Underground Tour. In August 2012, he collaborated with singer Ashthon Jones on Lecrae’s single "Mayday" from his album Gravity.

"Shine On" featuring Bun B, the first single off K.R..I.T.’s upcoming mixtape, was released on February 27, 2013. The mixtape, K.R.I.T. (King Remembered In Time), was released on April 10, 2013.

On April 28, 2014, K.R.I.T. released the first single off his second album, Cacillactica, titled "Mt. Olympus". His second single, "Pay Attention", was released on July 25, 2014. The album was released on November 10 and debuted at number five on the Billboard 200, once again hitting the top spot on the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart. As with his previous album, Cadillactica received widespread critical acclaim, and it appeared on six end-of-year lists.

2016-present: 4Eva is a Mighty Long Time and K.R.I.T. iz Here

On July 6, 2016, K.R.I.T. released 12 freestyles in 12 hours online and then announced through Twitter that he had parted ways with Def Jam. 4Eva Is a Mighty Long Time, his third studio album, features guest appearances from T.I., Lloyd, Bun B, Pimp C, CeeLo Green, Sleepy Brown, Joi, Jill Scott, Keyon Harrold, Bilal, Robert Glasper, Kenneth Whalum, and Burniss Earl Travis II. It was released on October 27, 2017, through Multi Alumni and BMG Rights Management, and charted at number seven on the Billboard 200.

K.R.I.T. Iz Here, his fourth studio album, was released on July 12, 2019 as a sequel to his 2010 mixtape K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. It features guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Saweetie, Rico Love, Yella Beezy, J. Cole and Baby Rose, among others, and reached number 16 on the Billboard 200.

K.R.I.T. released his fifth studio album, Digital Roses Don't Die, on February 18, 2020.
