ABOUT JIMMIE ALLEN

Country music singer Jimmie Allen was born in Milton, Delaware, and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2007 to pursue a music career, During those first few years in Nashville, Allen was destitute, often taking to sleeping in his car. Over the years, he auditioned for America’s Got Talent and American Idol. Although he did not make it through to the live voting rounds, he did befriend Scotty McCreery, who went on to win the season.

CAREER

In 2016, Allen signed a publishing deal with singer-songwriter Ash Bowers’ songwriting imprint Wide Open Music. Early the following year, he was signed to Stoney Creek, an imprint of Broken Bow Records. He went on to release his self-titled EP, which was produced by Bowers, on the label later in 2017. The EP was well-received by critics and one of its tracks, "Blue Jean Baby", was added to Spotify's "United States Viral 50 chart".

"Best Shot," Allen’s debut single, was released on February 20, 2018. The single spent three non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Country Airplay chart, making him the first black artist to send his debut single to the top of that chart. The single also reached number five on the Hot Country Songs chart and number 37 on the Hot 100, and it went on to be certified gold by the RIAA.

His debut album, Mercury Lane, was released on October 12, 2018. It charted on the Billboard 200 and also reached number 11 on the Top Country Albums chart.

The album’s second single, "Make Me Want To", gave Allen his second number one hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. It also peaked at number seven on the Hot Country Songs chart and number 49 on the Billboard 200. It has been certified platinum by the RIAA.

In May 2019, Allen recorded a cover of  Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "Shallow" with fellow country singer Abby Anderson.

"This Is Us", a duet with Noah Cyrus, was released in 2020 as the first single off his EP Bettie James, which was released on July 10, 2020.

At the 2021 ACM Awards on November 10, 2021, Allen became the first black solo performer to win New Male Artist of the Year.
